Colour

From the beginning I knew colour would be an important part of this brief. To create a clear difference between each section I chose to use six warm colours that not only work well individually but as a set/collective.
I wanted to sit a range of shades next to each other to decide the best shade. I thought that the colours above where maybe too harsh or bright for this kind of project. The covers need not only to attract people and have that wow factor but also sit quietly on a bookshelf, hence the much lighter shades below.

Reversing out the text doesn't seem as brash as just plain black text below. Instead of using a white to display the pattern and faber logo I used a light shade of each colour this meant that in terms of hierarchy the title of the book is read 1st and the pattern last.

I was unable to decided which set to use, colour on white background or reversed out white. In the end I went for the reversed out white however I do have plans to use the other design for a flyer or poster promoting the faber book range.

Lighter colour versions of the bar codes, pattern and type. ^
